Moving with kids is never easy, but there are ways to ease the pain whether you are moving across the city or across the country. We offer 5 helpful tips on how to make this move a little bit easier.
#1. Discuss the move with your kids
Let them know you are there to talk, no matter what the circumstance is. They just want to know their voice is also heard. Try to give them as much information about the move as soon as possible. Answer all questions truthfully and completely.
#2. Subscribe to/ or pick up the local paper
There will be tons of activities for kids to join in, as well as family events in town. Pick some fun items to do and sign up to get your kids excited for the move. This allows them to also meet other children in the neighbourhood.
#3. Pack all your child’s favourite items in one box
Keep this box with you, doing so will allow your child to open the box as soon as you move. This allows them to create a familiar place for your child in your new home.
#4. Take a trip to your child’s favorite places
Before you leave town, make a list and allow your child to contribute to the list of favourite places to go in town. Make one last trip there, whether it be your child’s favourite book store, park or restaurant. Allow them to have that closure also, also let them know you will be coming back.
#5. Get the kids excited for the move
Whether you take them to to paint a canvas or a piece of pottery to hang in their new room, allow the kids to find excitement in something. Give them something to put on the walls in their new room and allow them to be excited to have it up there as soon as you move.
Moving isn’t easy for anyone, but these tips can help make the transition to a new city or home that much smoother.
